Need some help with spyware called keylogger, specifically Spectorsoft?

Someone said if I download a keylogger onto a computer, it can run in stealth mode, completely hidden, such as spectorsoft and that I can download it off the internet for around.
How does that work and what exactly will it do? Will it be 100% hidden, even where a tech-savvy person couldn’t find it?
